What came first, the Italian man who wears the clothes or the clothes that wear him? On a recent trip to Florence, the Fashion Office was fascinated with an unintentional “je ne sais quoi” distinction between Italian and American styling, particularly for men. They can wear jeans, shirts and jackets, yet still look buttoned-up and “out of the ordinary.” The Italians also have a knack for mixing seemingly contradictory patterns and colors into a combination that looks as modern as it does traditional. Perhaps it’s the laissez-faire attitude that helps with their innate choice of just the right fit, appreciation for the best fabrics, and ability to layer active wear with tailored pieces. Either way, it all comes together for a look that says “effortless” and “perfection.” Mama Mia!
