After show-hopping – and a team debrief – the WGSN Catwalks editors call out the most exciting and directional emerging trends – and we’re sharing some of our favourites here.
New York Fashion Week is well underway, and the WGSN content team are combing over collections, looking for trend confirmations and for new inspiration, too. Amid the trend hunt, WGSN editors are bookmarking their favourite collections.
First up, editor of the Trend Feed, Polly Walters, for whom Proenza Schouler’s 2019 offering is the real standout of New York Fashion Week.
Proenza Schouler – Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough – returned to New York Fashion week with full force last season, and their most recent collection simply builds upon this success.
“It was a collection that triumphed in both technicality in detail” says Walters. “From the deconstructed split-hems on the trousers – something we’ve been tracking closely at WGSN – to smart layering and side-splits on the garments, creating an illusion of asymmetry”.
Whilst there was plenty of joy in the specifics, the general aesthetic and tone of the show caught attention. “Americana aesthetics are starting to bubble up again, and Proenza Schouler’s take feels contemporary and refreshing. I’m calling out their A/W 19 boots as being an evolution of the ever-present cowboy boot – the square toed silhouette providing an exciting update. It feels refreshing to be able to pair them with more tailored, smarter looks.”
