After show-hopping – and a team debrief – the WGSN Catwalks editors call out the most exciting and directional emerging trends – and we’re sharing some of our favourites here.
With Milan Fashion Week all wrapped up, and Paris in full swing, there feels little time for reflection. However, the WGSN content team are still combing over Milan collections, looking for trend confirmations and for new inspiration, too. Amid the hunt, editors are bookmarking their favourites.
For Christa Kaufmann, WGSN catwalks editor, the highlight was husband-and-wife duo, Luke and Lucie Meier, who’s vision for Jil Sander is leading the brand straight into the lucrative #OldCéline space.
“As the appreciation for simplicity is rising among consumers and fashion enthusiasts alike, Lucie and Luke Meier’s serene and pure collection feels like a poetic addition to the maximalist Milan catwalks”, explains Kaufmann.
“Long-over-long layers – a style we’ve been tracking at WGSN – in loose silhouettes and impeccably tailored jackets, rendered with a sense of soft and gentle femininity, create almost a monastic and austere aesthetic.
“Ultimately, the Meiers’ luxurious yet less-is-more approach resonates as well in 2019 as it did back in the 80s when Jil Sanders founded the brand”.
