Last season Paul Smith referenced the chic women of Paris. For S/S 09 he was globe-trotting again, inspired by an exhibition of British Orientalist art that just closed at the Tate Britain. The result was a mesmerizing melting pot. Voluminous pants and skirts over petticoats, plaid and gingham for scarves, headwraps and dresses, and on the other hand sharp tailoring. He mentioned an ivory coat with black trim having “started out Orientalist, ended up Chanel” In summary, fresh-looking and wearable from the venerable Sir Paul.
