NINETIES REVISITED
Milan: The dream of the nineties is alive in…Milan? Dan and Dean Caten channeled the more flamboyant aspects of the decade for their spring show. Models pranced down the runway striking theatrical poses, and their overtly sexy looks recalled Moschino and Versace in their heyday. The problem was the Catens didn’t seem to have anything new to say. Their regurgitation of nineties looks felt uninspired and costume-y. Maybe it’s that Halloween is right around the corner, but many of the ensembles seemed to have been created around the theme – sexy police women, sexy Barbie doll, sexy dominatrix. There were a handful of jackets and a dress or two that one could imagine seeing on the street, but the rest was so vulgar, it will most likely only make it to the club, if anywhere at all. –Joanna Manganaro
