New York: While Donna Karan uncovered the street savvy of seasoned New Yorkers for DKNY this spring, her eponymous line celebrated the naïve charms of awe-struck newcomers to the city. Structured cottons and floaty silks were tucked, draped and twisted into balletic full skirts and sinuous mermaid-like gowns – all in a palette of soft sea-inspired hues that gave the collection the look of a Degas painting. Ensembles were monochromatic, running from eggshell to midnight blue, but multi-textured, with crinkled surfaces, fabric piecing, sponge-y dye treatments and dimensional trims bringing a studied sense of style to the fairytale wardrobe.—Nivara Xaykao
