LAST DAYS OF SUMMER
New York: Though designers tend to gear their Pre-Fall collections toward cooler-weather garments, the items hit stores while summer is still in full swing. With this in mind, Donna Karan presented a variety of pieces that were appropriate for the both the beach and the city streets. There were sporty tank dresses, easy button-ups, and simple A-line skirts, all in lightweight fabrics, such as fluid jerseys, airy silks, and cotton eyelet. The palette was almost solely made up of black and optic white, with touches of pale beige and pops of cerulean, fuchsia, and indigo. A surfeit of stripes, echoed with the knee-high multi-strap sandals, added graphic interest. There were just a handful of jackets, mostly of the motorcycle variety, keeping the focus on warm-weather clothing.–Joanna Manganaro
