NEW YORK MOD
New York: Though Donna Karan was inspired by Carnaby Street this season, the loyal New Yorker couldn’t resist infusing a little of her hometown into the DKNY collection. Karan interpreted Mod color-blocking and boxy silhouettes for her sophisticated, street-savvy customer, but turtleneck base layers played down the fanciness of chiffon dresses, and black items balanced an otherwise vibrant palette. While the gritty New York influence lessened the collection’s flamboyance, technicolor houndstooth patterns, playfully tilted-back bowler hats and rugby stripes ensured that the looks remained appropriate for Karan’s DKNY customers, who tend to be younger than those of her signature line.
