THE PASSIONATE SHEPHERD

Paris: Kris Van Asche showed a country-minimalist collection where ductile, white suit coats, loose, cropped trousers, and soft, round wide-brim hats evoked a pastoral utopia home to chic Dolomiti shepherd boys. Long lambskin coats and leather collars appliqués on suit coats and shirts supported this theme. A palette of white and wheat paste, that extended from the designer’s apparel to the set and lighting, was punctuated by shots of black on suits, hats and chunky leather rocker cuffs, smears of caramel on suede belts and leather detailing, and eight striking slate blue ensembles. Shiny, structured ankle boots hinted at urbanity, while ultimately revealing themselves to be simple work boots at hearth. Van Asche toyed with deconstruction throughout, showing barely finished muslin suits, reversed ring button closures, and single top-button suit coats in sweeping cuts that revealed trousers closed with thick tab fronts. Ultimately, Van Asche enriched his characteristic minimalism with earthy elements and touches of rough-hewn charm. —Andrew Luecke
