Sao Paulo: John Galliano used his F/W 10 collection for Dior as a jumping-off point for a “resort/fall 11” collection shown in November 2010 in Sao Paulo, even recycling what appeared to be pieces from that collection in his show. While that season evoked a whimsical Pre-Rafaelite-meets-English-country theme, this show felt more practical and down to earth. Basics like slim 5-pocket jeans and straight skirts appeared, as did olive leather motorcycle jackets (some with the designer’s signature sexy-40s peplum shape) and demure floral blouses. Capes, leather pieces and plaid wools looked like an uptown girl’s take on country apparel, while sweet ruffled dresses and skirts were prim and girly. Guipure lace was used for luxe coatdresses and cocktail frocks. While the rustic pieces and the ultra-femme looks sometimes felt at odds, there were plenty of wearable and appealing items in the mix.
