New York: The Rolling Stones have been making headlines once again. They are celebrating the band’s fifty-year anniversary with a set of shows in New York this week, and the New York Times‘ fashion section just ran a photo series on their style throughout the decades. Diane von Furstenberg also name-checked the group when describing her Pre-Fall collection. Specifically, she called it “Mick in his Marianne era”. Though many looks seemed more Marianne than Mick, elements of masculinity appeared here and there. One could imagine the full-lipped rocker sporting tie-neck silk shirts, slim trousers, and pieced coats in Swinging London. Another important entity in Swinging London, Biba, seemed to have also had a strong influence on the collection, with printed baby-doll dresses, boxy shifts and miniskirts in heavy rotation. The fashions of the intoxicating era seem never to go out of style, and von Furstenberg’s interpretation of them made for an offering with plenty of appeal.–Joanna Manganaro
