New York: Mining Diane von Furstenberg’s travel experiences in Rome, Jaipur and Marrakech, the designer and her Creative Director Yvan Mispelaere funneled traditional ethnic costumes, bright colors and draped silk separates onto the S/S 13 runway. Recalling her time as a “rebel princess,” von Furstenberg produced elegant sarouel pants, diaphanous caftans and poet-sleeve blouses energized by colorblocking, architectural outlines and shimmering sequins. Loosely hung, the silhouettes were cinched at the waist with wide leather belts and tapered into a sexy carrot shape, while pants and jackets unexpectedly overtook dresses as the most interesting items this season. —Nina Stotler
