Hellessy designer, Sylvie Millstein, founded her luxe brand based out of New York in 2012. Born in Paris to a French father and Japanese mother, Millstein effortlessly blends characteristics of both cultures with a modern aesthetic. Each collection is made in America and incorporates sumptuous materials, exquisite details, and a precise fit.
What has been inspiring you this season?
Art, in particular, the work of young painter Rachel Pontious that informed my color palette and the desire to be different yet relevant. I put a lot of emphasis on the back of the garment, adding longer lengths, shirring and volumes in the back. My woman in a subtle way wants people to take a second look at what they are wearing.
What is the theme of the collection?
An aesthete goes art gallery browsing.
What defines your design aesthetic?
Precision of lines, refinement in fabrics and colors, seductive silhouettes but always with a certain nonchalance to the way the clothes are worn and paired.
What are some must-have pieces in the collection?
Macramé knits from Bolivia and long silk apron gowns with back trains.
What are the key colours and fabrics?
Poppy red and olive green are mixed with a palette of canvas whites and textured blacks. Silk “stingray” prints, cotton canvas, leather and knitwear.

I am still a novice in social media so I am still learning and discovering but I like to follow posts from Barneys and Amanda Ross.
