New York: In one of Derek Lam’s most appealing collections to date, the designer seemed to take cues from fashion’s new minimalist movement – in particular, the work of Phoebe Philo for Celine – and add his own stamp on the style. The precise feeling of clean, boxy jackets and flared tailored trousers was offset with rustic tunics and blanket coats, as well as plush furs and light-as-air evening looks that billowed elegantly behind the models. Contrasting vertical panels for pants, leather trim and stripes gave looks a defined, graphic look, while unstructured jumpsuits looked comfortable yet sophisticated.
