Dennis Hopper was a Hollywood icon during his long career, coming to represent the epitome of masculinity along with only a handful of other men like Paul Newman and Steve McQueen. Before his death this May, the actor had quietly started working with California-based Vans on a small capsule collection showcasing some of his own artwork and photography over the years.
“His anti-establishment nature and high value of self-expression match what we strive to accomplish with Vans,” said company representative Chris Overholser. “Further, he was connected to surf legend Herbie Fletcher and the Dogtown skate guys — all huge figures in Vans’ history.”
The footwear from the collection, available exclusively at Urban Outfitters, includes an oiled Vans Chukka Boot ($80 retail) in a deep forest green and a beige Vans Era 59 sneaker ($60 retail) with a woven upper, leather heel accent and waxed corded laces. All of the pieces feature the distinct Dennis Hopper Project branding, a unique logo that ties the collection together.
