The Denim team just spent an amazing and inspiring two days at Denim by Premiere Vision F/W 12-13. The show was a larger event this season, with 83 exhibitors from 19 countries showing their new innovations in denim. ‘Future Vintage’ was the show’s title and a strong focus on sustainability made for some interesting and interactive events.
Wednesday evening saw a live and open debate between Neil Bell (Fabric Developerr from Levi’s) Francois Girbaud (currently pioneering with Jeanologia on new laser and ozone technology) Adriano Goldschmied (Creator of AG Adriano Goldschmied and partner at Citizens Of Humanity, among many other denim achievements) Lylian Richardiere (artistic director of Le Temps des Cerises) Enrique Silla (creator of Jeanologia) and an open mic to the rest of the international jeanswear community. The debate proved fascinating, passionate and at times overwhelming as the subject of sustainability is a deeply controversial and complex one. However, more than ever, the majority of the participants are fully on board to change the future of the entire production chain with cotton suppliers, mills and finishing plants all on board to improve our industry.
A big subject on many’s lips was the increased use of Laser and Ozone and both its benefits and disadvantages. Jeanologia wowed many spectators with their live demonstrations of the processes in the ‘Future Vintage’ gallery, see our video below:
Other companies to contribute to eco events, demonstrations and an altogether greener indigo future were Bossa and ITACLab with Meidea in their ‘Blue Refuge’ area, TRC Candiani’s Eco sustainability program, ‘Indigo Juice’ and Tejidos Royo’s ‘Suave Forest Lounge’ using Lyocel Tencel, made from eucalyptus pulp.
The images from the event will be in the Image Library within the next few days, and look out for our full trended report to follow.
The next Denim by PV event is on November 30th.
