Earlier this week, during the madness of Milan Fashion Week, Crackers Magazine celebrated its second edition of the vintage denim show, Denim Boulevard.
The S/S 15 menswear shows in Milan have showcased one of the strongest seasons of denim for men to date. Big houses like Prada, Fendi and Versace all championed the fabrics in various forms, signaling both the relevance and diversity of denim today. Meanwhile, off the runway, Denim Boulevard, a three-day marathon (June 21 – 23) dedicated to denim, offered male attendees a complementary showcase that celebrated the history and manufacturing processes the 150 year old fabric.
Now in its second edition, Crackers Magazine along with denim veteran Antonio Di Battista (founder of the brand Blue Blanket) presented, yet again, another fantastic program with even more great features and special showcases that highlight the “dark side” of jeans and the processes behind making the product. The event took place in the same striking location of the debut 2013 show, Fonderia Napoleonica, a historical bells factory located in the MotoQuartiere (motor-neighborhood) in Milan.
This years schedule featured a photography exhibition by Nick Clements and Matt Hind (Men’s File), a special workshop organised by Italian brand Berto: an antique loom producing selvaged denim fabric, as well as a special presentation for the launch of Piero Turk’s long awaited release “Details” – A life with denim. Antonio Di Battista also presented his “My Archive” museum (also shown at Blueprint, Amsterdam) exhibiting rare and unseen workwear denim relics from between 1900 to 1950, all taken from his personal archive. And of course a great selection of fine music, cold beers and dedicated denim heads all combined to make this one of the most unique events on the trade show calendar.
