Last week WGSN’s Interior trend experts got the pleasure of visiting the Homi Milano trade show in Italy. We were on site to present a series of talks on global design direction, lifestyle & interiors, plus colour, material, finish. While we were there we also got to explore the trade show space and identify the key design products to know.
Homi is in its 3rd season, and is fast becoming a staple for retailers & consumers of Italian design, lifestyle and home products for a commercial angle. Live from the trade show, here are the Italian design products that we think you should know about for 2018:
The Anni Vases on show designed by Massimo Barbierato at Hands on Design are made from wood and built to age. These are the type of pieces set to become a statement of time. The Hands on Design section of the stand was a showcase of traditional artisanal techniques & craftsmanship.
Modern Design meets Italian Craft
The Portego brand connects modern design with Italian crafts. Key design items include the Selfportrait mirror by Portego & rugs made by Oci, both are beautiful minimalist statements with adaptable interior solutions. The Selfportrait mirror has a desktop and wall solution, designed to look like a fan it’s a comical classic for the home. While the Oci rugs (Oci is the Venetian/Italian for the word ‘eye’) are made with a tafting technique from 100% New Zealand wool, delivered in bold, striking colourways.
Venecian company & retailer Zafferano has been creating collections of tasting glasses and tableware in glass since 2001. This year they featured a collection called ‘Tue’ of colourful patterned ceramics “designed to offer a product that is fun and yet functional at the same time”. Perfect to bring out at your next dinner party!
