Vintage YSL, Leigh Bowery, candy-stripe stockings; put ‘em together and what have you got? Although these fantastical images tempt me to say bippity-boppity-boo, what we really have is a piece of Alexander McQueen’s F/W 09 collection. McQueen has made his career on historical references with a twist, and not only puts on a good show, but makes some incredible clothing. Allure and fortune have always followed historically influenced desires such as Vivian Westwood, John Galliano, and McQueen, proving that when designers successfully tap into the past, their designs tap into us.
