Back in November last year, I attended a really cool event in Paris called AKAA (Also Known As Africa) a new fair for creatives. On site, I came across a super cool new photographer who should be on your radar, called David Uzochukwu.
In my opinion he creates the most emotional photography, and has collaborated with the coolest lady in pop music right now: FKA Twigs, on top of that he also speaks 5 languages. His imagery reminds me of some of the greatest artists like Isabel Allende and Toni Morrison who create that magical realism through their text, Uzochukwu creates a similar vibe through his art. He was not formally taught photography and he’s only 18. He’s already racked up credits working for everyone from Dazed to Nike. And while he’s achieved so much at such a young age, I love that he signed up with recently launched Galerie Number 8, an online platform operating from Brussels, rather than a big, more established/traditional gallery. Better yet, he told me he’s excited to go back to university to study philosophy. There’s nothing better than hearing from a creative that he’s still curious about learning.
