This Cruise/Resort season, designer Cynthia Rowley took her show on the road. The designer and a pack of models toured Manhattan in a big black bus, making stops outside of the Hearst, Time Inc., and Condé Nast offices for photo ops and champagne cocktails. Editors who went downstairs for the festive presentation were able to see Rowley’s whimsically light-hearted designs up close. The C/R 11 collection, which featured flowing dresses and breezy separates, was full of playful accessories and glitzy embellishment. Much like Rowley’s Fall 10 collection, the new designs felt otherworldly; oversized langoustine necklaces, a neon scale-like print, an abundance of iridescent fabrics and embellishments, and a largely ocean-hued color palette hinted at a subtle under-the-sea theme. Floral prints and patchwork details were also common style elements, making for a slightly off-beat-eclectic collection with the quirky-femme charm for which Rowley is known.
