Paris…Viktor & Rolf
Forget about a fashion show; let’s talk about a fashion film. The Dutch duo, Rolf Snoeren and Viktor Horsting, created a digital simulation of a runway show that was posted on their website. The 7 minute short film is a high-tech version of “Funny Face,” the inspiration for the collection. “It’s like nothing that you have ever seen on the Internet,” said Snoeren. “I think it looks very slick.” The cast was a model of one, Shalom Harlow, who traipsed the 70-foot runway 5 times in each outfit for cameras to gain access to every angle of the duo’s creation. However, it was a capsule collection of just 21 looks. Perhaps most of the work was put into the cocktail dresses made of layer upon layer of colorful organza. Black and white geometric prints were shown on silky tops and dresses as well as hosiery. Cocktail dresses and shirt-dresses took on a deconstructed cubist approach. And the Sarong skirt is set to make a huge comeback from the look of its double exposure in the show. The website is set to gain a multitude on hits considering a feat of this magnitude has rarely been completed in the history of Fashion Week. Rolf Snoeren said, “It was like the fashion Olympics.”
