CUT IT OUT
New York: Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs are the queens of the cutout. The two almost single handedly started the trend with their first collection way back in 2009. Their signature design detail was in heavy rotation for Cruise/Resort, often veiled with sheer fabric. Though their earlier collections could be quite revealing and difficult for real women to wear, their current offering provided plenty of realistic options. Slim, cropped pants, accordion pleated skirts and button-up tops were welcome additions to their repertoire. They also presented lovely evening looks with flattering halter necklines, which would look great on the red carpet. Overall, the looks seemed less aggressive and more feminine this time around. This ever-so-slight shift serves them well and will broaden their label’s appeal. –Joanna Manganaro
