Cushnie et Ochs

New York: This season, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs’ body-con array was inspired by director Pedro Almodóvar’s new flick The Skin I Live in, which is about a plastic surgeon who becomes obsessed with the notion of transforming a patient’s appearance into a perfect copy of his dead wife’s. The movie’s themes suited the designers’ aesthetic well, as crescent shaped cutouts and zippers that ran along seams at once mimicked a doctor’s incisions and catered to the duo’s penchant for body-mapping. While Spring’s Stepford-esque full skirts and sunny hues were replaced by clingy silhouettes and dark jewel tones, its pretty but perverse undercurrents remained. —Whitney Kessler
