Culinary Cinema: Monkey Town 3 returns to New York

One of the original immersive dining restaurants in New York, Monkey Town returns to the Chelsea area of the city this summer.

Held at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center, this multi-sensory food experience will envelop guests in a floating cube of gargantuan-sized cinema screens and sound, while they feast on a menu of pork-stuffed squid, pickled vegetables and Vietnamese coffee-cream pie.

“Anyone attending past versions of Monkey Town will be pleasantly surprised to find themselves in a fully enclosed 19 foot cube. This version is a seamless cube where the audience ducks under the screens to enter the seating area. All the screens are rear-projected, which creates a gigantic floating jewel box of moving images,” explains Montgomery Knott.

The event celebrates 10 years since the inaugural Monkey Town edition in 2003. For the third edition, Montgomery Knott and Maggie Lee have curated a program of film and video works by a total of 21 contemporary artists and filmmakers. Over two hours of visual film will loop consecutively every evening for 60 days by artists including Jack + Leigh Ruby, Tara Sinn, Trisha Baga, Kathy Rose, William Rahilly, Jeremy Couillard and Filip Olszewski.

Seating is limited to 32 guests per evening. Further information and tickets can be found via the website. – Samantha Fox
