This Friday, September 28th makes it 20 years since that inaugural night in San Francisco when the first ever Critical Mass was formed. Inherently a spontaneous and minimally organized event, bike riders converge upon their city’s streets, seizing power in numbers. Whatever the specific motivations may be, the overall message is loud and clear. They are in essence an active rebellion against our auto-powered, petroleum-dependent transportation systems, utilizing human energy alone while showcasing the strength of community.
The effect is as strong as ever today, trending in cities across the country (and world) for years including New York City, Kanas City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, San Diego and London.
Controversy aside, the rides that will take place in over 300 cities around the globe this Friday are positive and can be suitable for anyone in support of cycling. Enjoy the ride!
