At WGSN our content editors are continuously forecasting the key trends in fashion and retail looking two years ahead, but they are also plugged into who the current game changers and tastemakers are right now.
Each month we take over a room in our London office, to discuss what we’re seeing, adding to our Tumblr’s, gigs we’re attending, and cultural things that have caught our attention.
Here’s what we’re loving this December:
1. Band: St Beauty
“I found this band thanks to a friend’s Instagram feed, the female duo were just at a gig in Brooklyn, and the little insta-video of the performance was enough to get me hooked on the band’s Vevo page,” Carlene Thomas-Bailey, Senior Editor.
2. New lifestyle site: Nataal.com
“This site was recommended to me by a friend at Vice Media, I fell in love with the lovely layout of the site and bookmarked it immediately. It has a super luxe feel and all the articles are focused on the brightest designers, storytellers, tastemakers and cultural revolutionaries from Africa”, Carlene.
3. Holiday fun: Festive Film Index
“The debate for what to watch on Christmas day is never pretty, but this site takes all the panic out of the decision making, it also groups key holiday movies by genre “singing, tears, warm fuzziness?” and brings up little gems that wouldn’t normally watch at Christmas like Die Hard 2″- Hannah Craggs, Associate Editor of Colour.
4. Handbag designer: Akosua Afriyie-Kumi
“I’ve normally got my eye on womenswear and so key accessories brands always pop up on my Instagram feed, I spotted this designer who has created these vibrant coloured handweaved handbags and I love them,” says Laura Yiannakou, Womenswear Associate Editor
5. Swimming + music = Wet Sounds
“Fresh from my ticket to last month’s underwater musical mash up I can’t wait for the next one of these. The idea is that you get given cool underwater headphones and you can listen to music while you swim, different artists come and perform and there are light shows too,” Hannah.
