The Denim team is in full swing at Copenhagen Fashion week for the S/S 12 collections, attending both runway and trade shows within the city. On the catwalks are a growing number of new and known Danish talents like Henrik Vibskov and Helje Hamre with a preview of their upcoming summer collections. At the four trade fairs, CPH Vision, Terminal-2, Gallery and Copenhagen International Fashion Fair, there are an additional 1,100 exhibitors representing a total of more than 2,300 international brand name collections.
CPH Vision opened the week with their press show set at the harbor front across from the Opera House, where they set the tone with a collection full of refreshing denim carrying an overall maritime aesthetic. Nautical elements came in the form of basic sailor silhouettes with shawl collar jackets and dockers pants combined with classic Breton stripes.
Gallery’s most directive brands channeled a similar aesthetic with naval-inspired silhouettes emerging as the move on from workwear themes. Soulland took a modern approach that was expressed through deck pants with rope-tie waistbands in classic nautical colors like ecru, navy and red. Mads Nørgård, on the other hand, looked to authentic vintage docker jeans, complete with ecru stitching and ticking stripe turn-ups. Additionally, the workshop vest became the new key high summer item for guys for many brands.
For womenswear, Bruuns Bazaar presented a clean and minimal aesthetic with a muted color palette and a number of hospital scrub-inspired pieces. Patchwork denim jackets, flares and flat-front shorts provided the collection a touch of funky, 70s cool.
In between the shows we also found the time to capture some of the great denim looks of the attendees. The Scandinavian guys looked to contemporary preppy styling with sharp white jeans and trucker and shirt layering, polishing off the look with neat bow ties. The girls styling took a more casual approach where clean, sunbleached rider jackets were paired with active shorts and floral printed shorts.
