Redefining the canon of beauty over and over again, fashion photography’s interpretation of the art of the portrait has also continued to impact contemporary art. The Cover Girl exhibition at Galerie Lafayette’s Galerie des Galeries offers a quirky, offbeat view of the “beautiful woman” through the eyes of ten fashion photographers from around the world.
The exhibition takes a look at beauty ideals, ranging from the doctrines set out by the luxury goods industry to the various representations of women promoted by fashion magazines, and also includes pieces exclusively produced for the show.
La Galerie des Galeries is a permanent exhibition venue which aims to bring five shows a year to help visitors discover the talented artists of today and tomorrow, and to emphasize the co-influence between fashion, fine arts, and design.
