THE DEMURE & HOMESPUN
New York: Costello Tagliapietra’s ladylike procession for F/W 13 had a certain librarian chic, with looks that vacillated between delicately demure and homespun vintage. The former meant dusty-hued versions of the designers’ signature jersey day dresses as well as faded, traditional floral prints, while cozier items included cableknit shrugs, velveteen trousers and 60s swing capes. But absent the explosive patterns and deft twisting and tucking which defined the duo’s Spring season, their latest work lacked the spark of imagination usually present on the Costello Tagliapietra runway.—Nina Stotler
