SUBTLE STRUCTURE
Milan: For F/W 12 creative director Sergio Corneliani focused on “new elegance” and custom-made tailoring for a look that was relaxed, confident and unstructured, while still observing tradition. Pairing the quality of Made in Italy products with inspiration of faraway lands, the collection featured impeccably cut pieces with tastefully eclectic detailing. Double-breasted suits were slim-fitting and less formal, topcoats were long and fluid and silhouettes had a bit of softness. Monochrome ensembles in pale grey had a spare, modern feel, while layers of hand-knit sweaters and extra-long scarves wrapped multiple times around the neck added a bit of coziness. For freezing winter weather, Corneliani offered a supremely luxe assortment of outerwear — a sheared mink coat, a knit and fur poncho, and a patchwork sheepskin jacket. —Anna Jane Davis
