Consumer: The Charm School pop up at Exmouth Market

Space CIC, with help from MIEN magazine, have created a modern day finishing school in Clerkenwell, London; a one-week pop up shop that encourages adults to improve on etiquette and enjoy fun activities with like-minded grown-ups.

The week’s program will comprise exhibitions, think-tanks, a history shop and cake stall, as well as an array of workshops including posture tutorials, sewing, recipe exchanges, and a space to read books and enjoy tea; a respite from the outside city, or office environment.

Katie Antoniou’s sleep clinic will provide participants with bedtime routines, stretches and milk and cookies for £15 – guaranteed to rejuvenate the senses before bed, while other classes include a vintage store shopping guide to London, and a make-your-own bunting course, both £10.

As technology become more abundant in our fast-paced, 21st century lives it’s exciting to see projects like this creating ‘down-time’ moments for adults – reverting to back to pre-technology forms of entertainment and charming older-fashioned values, while enabling grown-ups the chance to build on their personal character and self-esteem – all in an interactive, relaxed and sociable environment.

The shop is already half way through its residency at 18 Exmouth Market, London.  Be sure to catch it before it closes on September 24th. – Samantha Fox
