Consumer: IHT Hot Luxury Conference 2011

Hotel Unique in São Paulo, Brazil is currently playing host to the 11th annual edition of the International Herald Tribune’s Hot Luxury Conference; an essential forum for the discussion of fashion and luxury trends and ideas, hosted by acclaimed Fashion Editor, Suzy Menkes.

Our South American correspondent Marina Manso had the opportunity to speak with  both Menkes and IHT publisher, Stephen Dunbar-Johnson at Thursday’s press conference.  Commenting on the ways in which luxury brands are surviving the current difficult economic situation Menkes deferred to Dunbar-Johnson who said, “…they (Luxury brands) are having a pretty good year because the luxury industry is very buoyant. The market is now multi-polar, the world is interconnected and these luxury brands are global and not dependent on any one market.”

Speakers so far have included Mario Testino, Christian Louboutin and Diane von Furstenberg, and today Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton will discuss the importance of craft, and how this is translated into the McQueen brand.

Since 2001, the conference has been an essential go-to for the ‘discussion and exchange of ideas for the fashion and luxury industry’, attracting an audience from over 35 countries.
