BACK TO BASICS
In its second season, Commonwealth Utilities doesn’t set out to change the face of men’s fashion. The designers’ intended goal is to give guys the pieces they want most and will wear most often; clothes that are masculine, yet cut with an athletic fit and made up of luxurious fabrics. For S/S 10, they showed the collection in the classic Astor Place barber shop in the East Village, to drive home the point that the collection was made up of “must have necessities” — just like a good haircut. The color palette remained soft and rooted in grey, with dusty pink and sky blue serving as accents. The monochromatic styling looked surprisingly sophisticated and dapper, especially when a bow tie and tailored shorts were thrown in for good measure.
