This month Comme des Garçons brought two of its retail concepts to Mitte, Berlin with the launch of Comme des Garçons’ Black shop and Comme des Garçons. The Pocket store is an intimate space that is dedicated to Comme des Garçons’ expanding range of wallets, perfumes and PLAY. The concept shop operates like a convenience store, integrating into its habitat as authentically as a local supermarket.
Comme des Garçons’ wallets have gathered iconic global status, offering customers more affordable and everyday access to the avant-garde luxury Japanese brand. The wallet emerged in 1988 with a zip closing system that went beyond previous perceptions of a “feminine” wallet to create an innovative unisex product. The success of focusing on small leather goods is evident in the Pocket Shop’s very existence (it’s now the second store of its kind, the first was opened in Singapore in 2010). The wallets are reproduced each season and now come in over 25 colorways and various styles, with the signature zip tab signifying their brand quality.
