Colour of the month: Scarlet Alert

Colour of the month: October 2018

At WGSN, we’re often working up to two years ahead, and this Autumn has confirmed one of our key colour predictions from back in 2016.

Your colour of the month is Scarlet Alert (18-1555 TCX and Coloro 013-39-31)

Recent runways saw bold and brighter colour making an impactful return, with Oscar de la Renta, Christopher Kane and Dries Van Noten amongst others championing all things hyper chromatic. Creating a flurry on social media, consumers now have an appetite for confident colour dressing – and it’s led by one colour in particular.

Scarlet Alert, retail

Originally piquing our interest back in back in 2016,  Scarlet Red cements it’s importance for the season ahead. A perennially important winter and party hue, red makes it’s presence felt as we begin to move towards these key drops within the retail calendar. Although rich and also berry tones still retain a commercial relevance, bolder and refreshed “rebellious reds” are creating true newness. Key for accent pieces throughout autumn and party drops, this colour adds drama to accessories and eye-catching embellishments, looking extra impactful on fresh trending faux animal skin and high shine fabrications.

Scarlet Alert leads the message, appearing clean and considered, however this colour can have greater appeal when used in combination with clashing tones. Confidently paring a rebellious red with an equally bold tone of fuschia or royal purple underscores it’s graphic impact and delivers a retro glamour, whilst partnering with softened and gentle pastels allows for a feminine undertone
