Colour of the month: June 2018
At WGSN, we’re often working up to two years ahead, and this summer has confirmed one of our key colour predictions from back in 2016.
Your colour of the month is Electric Lilac (15-3412 TCX and Coloro 137-70-16).
It first appeared within WGSN’s S/S 18 Colour Forecast, featuring in our youth focused theme Youth Tonic. This season has only acted as confirmation, creeping into catwalks, fashion week streets and retail spaces alike.
As always, the importance of colour is related to wider shifts and narratives in society. Electric Lilac sits within the same gender neutral story as millennial pink – a colour that’s still a huge talking point, and shows no signs of slowing even though it’s hit the mainstream.
So where does it get its name? It may be a pastel tone, but Electric lilac has a real depth to it – a strong brightness that makes it particularly impactful. It’s this quality that has helped this tone slot nicely into key, commercial streetwear trends, and evolve into smarter dressing, too.
As the return to smarter dressing hits the streets this season, Electric Lilac features heavily.
Electric Lilac was threaded into the very fabric of recent menswear and womenswear catwalk collections – reinforcing that gender neutral narrative.
From high street retailers through to premium brands, this tone is featuring in the stores across a range of categories, showing a strong commercial presence.
