Coloro X WGSN: Cassis – romanticism, youth and femininity

Next up in our S/S 2020 key colours, WGSN and Coloro bring you the gender-neutral and modern Cassis. A desirable fusion of the pinks and purples that have made such a huge impact in recent seasons.

Subtly graduating from crushed blackcurrant to rich aubergine, the deep purplish tones of the elegantly understated Cassis draws inspiration from nature in shades that are sophisticated, colourful and rich. A natural evolution from Millennial pink, as it continues the appeal of soft, slightly feminine colours, this hue will resonate strongest in Europe, the US and Asia-Pacific.

Psychologically, this hue taps into both pink and purple tones. With the moodier purple undertones, it evokes feelings of grandeur and decadence, due to its historic connotations with royalty.

Nature did not make it easy to dye fabric this tone and historically the production of this material in this colour was one of the most laborious, time-consuming and expensive processes around. Only the rich could afford such a luxury and aside from King’s robes and priests’ stoles this hue was hard to obtain. Enter Cassis which is awash with pink uplifting the delectable purple hues and harnessing the calming effect the rosy shade can have on our emotional energies.

Rustic, hearty fare looks great in Cassis, which radiates grown-up glamour yet is grounded, natural and surprisingly soothing. A desirable colour which is relevant across both womenswear and menswear styles it will prevail in men’s casual wear and denim, as well as decorative walls and accessories.

Stay tuned for two more key colours, dropping weekly on WGSN and Coloro.
