The Key Colours for A/W 22/23, forecasted in collaboration with Coloro each represent a material, plant or food that was highly valued in the past. Today, as periods of crisis have refocused our thoughts and encouraged us to reset, we are reacquainting ourselves with these values and evaluating how they relate to our future.
Introducing Dark Oak, a Key Colour for A/W 22/23. Dark Oak is a timeless and grounding shade which has a nostalgic undertone inspired by antique and lacquer finishes.
We predicted the rise of enriched browns for A/W 19/20 and A/W 20/21 and have seen them gather pace recently. A challenging economic outlook and demand for a slower fashion development cycle will ensure brown remains relevant. Dark Oak is an inky shade and serves as an evolution of the tinted blacks we forecast for A/W 21/22. Inspired by dark lacquers and antique finishes, this colour has nostalgic undertones. Oak has a rich heritage in the furniture, tanning and fortified wine and spirits industries, known for a strength and longevity designers and producers are still striving to preserve today.
As part of a broader range of browns, this colour will be key for the nails, lips and eyes Beauty categories. Dark Oak will also continue to be relevant to the fashion market for apparel, footwear and accessories. A shift towards darker wood finishes and a rich patina will enhance this colour’s importance for interiors.
