Fall and winter uniforms among the urban hipsteratti always seem to skew heavily towards dark, muted colors. Loads of black sure, but even when seeking variety many will only stray as far as a midnight blue or dark charcoal. I’m guilty of this as well. I love my black urban uniforms for many reasons but the prime motivating factor behind them might just be laziness. (Who would have thunk – laziness as a motivational force??) Black tends to look chic while requiring little thought about whether things match or go together or look good with your skin tone – not to mention more esoteric concerns such as whether a certain color is “in” during a given season. Black is always in – or at the least, it’s never “out”. As a photographer however my eye is always drawn to those daring souls who flash a bit of winter color, usually in the form of a great accessory. Whether it’s a bag, shoes, brightly-hued tights – or as I saw on Greene Street, a multi-colored scarf and hot pink WESC headphones – tossing just a little well-chosen color into your wardrobe mix is a guaranteed head-turner.
