It’s happened: we hailed the pixie cut as the next trend in hairstyles (thank you, Beyoncé) and wouldn’t you know it, our longtime model crush Coco Rocha is the first famous face to take the plunge. She snipped her long ombré locks just in time for New York fashion week (Sept. 5-12).
The master behind the daring chop? None other than celebrity stylist Anh Co Tran, who has styled many a famous mane for the Emmys, the Oscars the Golden Globes and New York and Los Angeles fashion weeks.
“I wanted her haircut to play all the roles that she takes on during shoots and shows,” Anh said. “Being able to switch the style effortlessly was my goal … her cut is full of contradictions: it’s all at once soft, hard, feminine, masculine and playful.”
How’d he do it? First, Anh used Oribe Founadtion Mist to prep Rocha’s hair for the wet cut, combing the product through, evenly. He used point-cutting to create texture, starting from the back and bottom of Rocha’s head in diagonal subsections until he reached the front of her head.
Then, he focused on the top of her hair by sectioning the hair at the crown, cutting the hair from short to long to keep lots of length at the front. At last, Anh dried her hair from bottom to top and used deep point cuts to add extra movement to the hair once it was dry. He finished the whole look with Oribe Rough Luxury Soft, Oribe Fiber Groom Texture Paste and Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray.
Who will be the next to go pixie? Maybe the next trend in short cuts will be the cue ball ( à la Jessie J)?
