Following last year’s show in Miami, Karl Lagerfeld took Chanel’s 2010 Resort collection to the charming city of Venice—where the legendary Coco resided for ten years. On Thursday night, a runway presentation took place on the Lido beach at the recently renovated Excelsior Hotel. A magical display of striped Gondola tees and over-sized sailors’ uniforms mirrored nautically-inspired swimwear and classic Chanel tweed suiting separates. The looks were topped off with thirties-style bobs and wide-brimmed hats. The Venetian Carnivale was also referenced with cloaks, Byzantine details like emblem-embellished prints and black sunglasses reminiscent of Carnivale masks.
