Clockenflap Festival 2017: 5 Things You Can’t Miss

Clockenflap Festival arrives just as you were packing away your unicorn headpiece and bright pink fishnet tights for the year. The festival’s veterans around the world are mustering up one last HORAH for a celebration of culture, art and music in Hong Kong’s Central Harbourfront for the festival’s 10th anniversary, so get ready for the ultimate East meets West experience.

The Fresh Tunes

This may seem like an obvious place to start, but it’s easy to get distracted by all the other things happening at Clockenflap this year. With 5 stages and an array of artists from London’s grime legend Stormzy to MØ’s empowering electropop (and not to forget Hong Kong’s rebellious heartthrobs Chochukmo), all of your friends music tastes will be satisfied. Check the full lineup here.

It’s totally instagramable…

Mesmerizing art? Check. Interactive mesmerizing art? Check. Clockenflap’s organizers have really gone above and beyond this year. Watch out for QUANTUM, a continually morphing performance piece of dizzying visuals. Want to be the art for the day? Why not head over to initial and try the dizzying art of body marbling courtesy of Japan’s Dirty Workers Studio. That way when you’re snapchatting away at the front of the crowd, while the people behind you will be able to marvel at your marbled arms. You can even get free touch ups from professional makeup and hair artists throughout the weekend – I know that’s where I’ll be heading after boogying to Cashmere Cat.

…but also a great IRL experience

Why not give yourself a break from dancing to your favourite tunes and try your footwork at Slacklining in FWD Passionland? While you’re there, you might as well get a temporary tattoo using the new Prinker digital printer (because…why not?). On your way back to the stage, make sure to grab a pair of sunglasses and ear defenders – they’re free and your ears will thank you later (and the sunglasses just look cool…who doesn’t want to look cool?)

Food… lots of it

With all the calories you will be losing dancing the weekend away, what better way to recharge than to head over to the FOOD BAZZAR? There you’ll find more food options than you can dream of, so prepare to be overwhelmed with choice. Or make things more simple and get a coffee and a cupcake at CAMPER Café by Kuuchi and relax in their laidback picnic style space. Regroup here with your friends and decide which stage to head to next.  Just don’t spend too much time here or you might miss HVOB & WINSTON MARSHALL!

Street Style

Music is a celebration of diversity, and with Clockenflap’s wide range of artists we are sure to see some funky outfits this year. Here are some photos we snapped of festival goers over the past. Bonus points if you’re able to tell what kind of music they’re into by what they’re wearing (hint: I think the guy in the hat will be back this year to see Panther Chan…)
