New York: “It’s almost like a little bit of a new beginning.” said Donna Karen, pre – show. The show was titled “East meets West”- although Karen – admittedly never having been to China – gave the overall aesthetic a modern and minimal twist: A cleansed palette lent the collection a sense of versatility – a purity and ease. Karen focused on 7 key pieces including a worker jacket, judo pants, a peplum bustier and the modern kimono. Each could be worn with one another to create different looks – a capsule wardrobe, if you like, for the Donna customer. The pieces worked together in serene unison; bustier tops layered under raw linen jackets or over crisp A-line skirts or pleated judo pants . Eastern influence shone through in wrap kimono tops and architectural silhouettes in sumptuous silks with jacquard details. Elsewhere the designer embraced evening wear in a sudden pop of peony pinks – strappy shift dresses came embellished with crystals and ostrich plumes. A sophisticated and versatile collection. – Anna Ross
