Clare Mallison, a Hackney-based illustrator, creates charming drawings that capture whimsical moments in everyday life. Her illustrations are free flowing and her delicate, continuous line drawings craft her recognizable style.
Mallison has always been drawn to architecture and intrigued by the patterns, shadows and reflections they produce. Although recently, Mallison was inspired by gymnasts and loves to draw their theatrical costumes. She has followed circus acts across London as well as watched synchronized swimming in the Olympics, where she drew the Russians’ Jacko swimsuits (our personal favorite!).
In the past year Mallison has worked on various exciting projects with DAKS London. She illustrated their Jubilee window display with an oversized drawing of London bridge during the boat pageant, part of which she painted live in the windows of their Bond Street store. The design is now being used in DAKS’ stores in Taiwan.
For the past two years, Mallison has been a daily contributor to The Times (UK) newspaper. Each day she receives a new recipe from their Food Editor and illustrates the ingredients or final dish. Other projects in the pipeline include illustrating a storybook, backdrops for an animation and fashion accessory drawings – so watch this space!
