Christopher Kane and L’affaire d’amour

London: Christopher Kane presented a feminine collection with a single heart as his leitmotif – appearing as lace lapels, embroidery, shoes, and long red leather gloves as well as buttons for closures. Lace, the perfect partner, was transformed into a transparent duster coat backed with plastic, or cut in slim skirts, and pretty dresses, and also worked into thick soled brogues and sporty flats. As if Kane referenced his scientific days, thick stitching resembling sutures, wound around seams while tiny coloured dots were sprinkled over herringbone tweed and small coloured crystals sprayed like confetti over a beautifully tailored black suit. The palette was new for Kane, light pink, aqua and lilac – sweetly feminine – whilst insets of bold red, black and white gave a sporty edge. It was the dresses that stole ones heart, one – in pleated georgette, floated whimsically around the ankles and then there was that black sheath, decorated with lace hearts and heart-shaped crystals – what was there not to fall in love with ? – Lizzy Bowring
