Christophe Lemaire

Paris: As the creative director at Hermés, Christophe Lemaire knows luxury and for his own collection he approaches the concept with a quiet confidence resulting in lasting and lovely foundation pieces. Infused with the sort of military equestrian references common for Hermés, Lemaire’s F/W 13 season was far more understated and gained significant momentum with refined, tapered trousers, gorgeous charcoal tweed blanket coats and nubby, collared knits. Warm butterscotch and deep navy looked just right among muddy olive, pumice and black, while silk pajama jumpsuits or ribbed cardigans defined at the waist with utility belt satchels exemplified the Parisian allure of intellectual fashion editors like Emmanuelle Alt. Inhabiting a sphere well beyond trends, Lemaire’s presentation was precisely what chic means right now. —Nina Stotler
