This might have been the best season yet for menswear, as shown by the stellar catwalk shows that brightened up rainy London this weekend and into the early part of the week.
But while most of the attention was on the full garment looks, the footwear making its way down the runway was worth paying attention to as well. As part of his catwalk show on Sunday (June 12th) Christopher Raeburn debuted the latest offering of his collaboration with high street footwear retailer Clarks.
The menswear designer added his stylish touch to the collections, which was a flurry of sandals and comfort footwear in bright spring/summer colourways. The entire footwear collection was a nod to his S/S17 catwalk show and the overarching space theme.
The theme influenced each design, one key shoe style is called the Zarya Solo and is inspired by liquid filled tubes used to cool spacesuits. The shoes in addition to looking great also fit the bill when its comes to functionality and innovation. It’s a collaboration that really works.
“Collaborations continue to be an essential avenue for many brands. Christopher Raeburn has once again teamed up with British comfort footwear brand Clarks. The latest S/S 17 London runways showcased the latest silhouettes, capturing a technical sport feel for men’s feet”, says Dan Bisson, WGSN Editor of Footwear & Accessories.
“Cupsole and sandal designs utilised elastic, neoprene and woven tape materials reinforcing that active lifestyle. Bold orange pops provide additional highlights to shark, taupe, off white and light grey upper tones. Styles offered a slightly directional look for traditional brand Clarks, demonstrating a modern and slightly futuristic approach for the brand/collection. I’m loving the hybrid active sandals,” adds Dan.
