New York: Bill Gaytten, having been thrust into the lead design role at Christian Dior after the fall of John Galliano, presented his last collection for the house for Cruise/Resort, before turning it over to the able hands of Raf Simons. While Gaytten’s tenure at the house featured some early missteps, it seems the designer was finally feeling comfortable and confident toward the end. His final collection included nods to Dior’s famous bar jacket – Gaytten included three lovely versions – and the full-skirted New Look silhouette. Wearable separates and tasteful eveningwear came to define the offering. There were no surprises here, just sophisticated, salable clothing. Gaytten did not go out with a bang, but rather with class and grace. –Joanna Manganaro
