Chris Benz

New York: Chris Benz’s popular label has grown from a collection of punchy, ladylike basics to a celebration of excess and eccentricity, committed to riotous layering and colorful embellishment. Repositioned for S/S 13 as advanced contemporary, the designer’s madcap styling (housecoats atop dresses over wide-leg denim trousers) remained unchanged, and his palette was just as bold with a sunny mix of minty aqua and canary yellow. When broken apart, Spring produced a number of must-haves, from lace skirt-suits and sheer accordion-pleat skirts to wide-leg floral trousers and poplin shirtdresses. With quirky details like fuzzy lurex stripes and an of-the-moment bag collaboration with the Cambridge Satchel Company, Benz’s more accessible market expansion is sure to stand out.—Nina Stotler
